What Stitch gives you
Stitch is Google Labs’ AI design tool, free while it is in Labs, with generation limits. You describe a screen or a site, it generates the UI, and you refine it on a canvas (Stitch 2.0, from March 2026, added an infinite canvas, a design agent, voice and a portable design-system file). When you are done you can download a screen or the whole project as HTML styled with Tailwind, along with a DESIGN.md that writes out the colors, type, spacing and component rules; copy a screen into Figma with layers intact; or let a coding agent such as Claude Code, Cursor or Gemini CLI read the project through Stitch’s MCP server.
What it does not have: a publish button. Stitch does not host, does not connect a domain, does not send forms and does not give anyone a way to edit the result without regenerating it. It is a design tool, and it stops where design stops.
What a website needs that the export does not have
- A domain and hosting. The HTML runs anywhere. Somebody still has to put it somewhere with your name on it.
- Forms that send. The form on the Stitch screen is still just a drawing of a form until a service is behind it.
- The ability to create pages that use the site template (header and footer) and style (menu) without needing to engage a designer.
- Editing by other People. Text changes in exports are considered code changes or regenerations.
- Production CSS. Stitch’s HTML uses Tailwind via a CDN, which will not work well for a production site. A production build will compile CSS only for the classes that are used.
- Search, analytics, consent. You need title and description tags per page, a sitemap, a tag management solution, and a consent management solution.
The three ways to make it real
| Host the HTML | Build it with Claude Code | Rebuild it as WordPress | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you do | Download the project; upload to Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare Pages or any host; connect a domain | Point Claude Code at the export or the MCP server; build a site or a WordPress theme; finish it; host it | Keep the design; rebuild it as a block theme with content in editable pages |
| Good for | A demo, a one-page teaser | Developers and teams that will keep coding | A business website a team will run |
| Who edits it after | Whoever can re-export and re-upload | A developer, or you and the agent | Anyone with a login |
| Forms | Add a form service by hand | Built in the process | A form plugin: email, entries, Slack |
| Time | Minutes | Days, then upkeep | Live in 48 hours with MightyMigrate |
| Cost | Hosting, often free | Your time or a developer’s, plus agent usage | $499 once; hosting optional from $69 a month |
The middle column is the interesting one, and the one people search for most: the Stitch-to-Claude-Code workflow is real and it is how MightyMigrate’s own rebuilds begin. It is written up, with what works and what needs finishing, in Google Stitch and Claude Code.
How the rebuild works
- Put the downloaded HTML files on a temporary URL and enter it. The scanner measures it with Google PageSpeed, counts the pages and quotes a fixed price. The price is $499 for up to 15 pages. Each page after that is $25.
- The files get rebuilt. DESIGN.md gets converted to theme.json. Screens get converted to patterns. Content gets put in editable pages. Forms, analytics and consent get wired.
- Approve. A staging link next to your Stitch screens. Nothing goes live until you say so.
- Switch. Your domain points at the new site. With managed hosting, the guarantee starts at launch: 93+ Performance on desktop or hosting is free until we hit it.
Start with the scan
It’s free, should take less than a minute, and has a fixed price. You won’t be asked to make a quote request.
Questions people ask
Can Google Stitch publish a website?
No. It exports code and designs; publishing and hosting happen elsewhere, by design. It’s not a missing feature.
Is Google Stitch free?
Yes, through Google Labs, which Google has changed limits for, more than once. Details in Stitch pricing and limits.
How do I turn a Stitch design into a WordPress site?
Rebuild it using DESIGN.md as the token source and HTML as the layout reference, then move the content into pages. Claude Code can produce the first pass; the general steps are in HTML to WordPress and the Stitch-specific workflow in Stitch and Claude Code.
What is DESIGN.md?
Stitch provides a markdown file that includes the project’s design system, colors, typography, spacing and component rules, in a form coding agents read well. It is the single most useful thing in the export for anyone rebuilding the design somewhere else.
